CU Denver alumna Susana Cordova (MA, ’00) is the next superintendent of Denver Public Schools (DPS). Cordova, unanimously approved this week, holds a MEd in educational, instructional and curriculum supervision from the School of Education & Human Development.
In 2016, Cordova served as acting DPS superintendent, filling in while Tom Boasberg took a leave of absence. Read our interview of the leading Lynx to learn how Cordova’s DPS career evolved and how a CU Denver education helped her prepare for the top job.
Highlights from the 2016 interview with acting DPS Superintendent Cordova:
- “What was so great for me was that the program at CU Denver was tailored to work that I was going to be doing in Denver Public Schools. I’ve also always appreciated the real focus on social justice and equity, particularly for a program that is in the heart of the city and serves people who are attending from the metro area. That’s not something you see in every program.”
- “My heart is in the Denver Public Schools. I would do anything to ensure we’re on the right track. I believe so strongly in the work that we do and the difference it makes in the lives of all kids.”
