Celebrating Us Month at CU Denver

April 2, 2024

At each commencement, we celebrate the incredible achievements of our learners as they reach an academic milestone that can transform their future.

Helping students meet their goals and earn their degrees is a foundational reason why CU Denver’s dedicated faculty and staff are inspired to do their work. This dedication to student success is a critical aspect of the university’s goal of being the best place to work

To recognize the big and small ways our community helps our students succeed, during a four-week span this spring, we will host several events to showcase individual efforts and team collaborations that create an environment where education can work for all. Some events are open to our entire campus community, while others are per invitation only for those being recognized.

Celebrating You Month at CU Denver: The Events

Regent Awards: April 11, 6 to 8 p.m., The Curtis Hotel

Each year, the University of Colorado Board of Regents recognizes individuals who’ve made notable contributions to CU Denver, the state, the country, and the world (invite only).

This new event celebrates outstanding master’s and doctoral students in categories that include Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation, Distinguished Master’s Thesis, and more.

Milo Awards: April 15, 5 to 7 p.m.

Named for our mascot, the Milo Awards spotlight student leaders making a difference in their community. Peers, faculty, and staff select the awards—and Milo’s Student Leader Scholarship is awarded at the event.

25-Year Faculty and Staff Celebration: April 23, 6 to 8 p.m.

This is an event that honors the continued dedication of faculty and staff members who have served CU Denver students for a quarter of a century (invite only).

University Honors and Leaders Reception: April 26, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Larimer Patio

The University Honors and Leadership Program supports students from across disciplines with academic honors curriculum and leadership studies. This event recognizes the achievements of its members before the end of the spring semester (invite only).

Celebration of Faculty Excellence: April 29, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Lawrence Street Center’s Terrace Room

This event provides an opportunity to celebrate excellence in the classroom, leadership, research and creative work, inclusive excellence, librarianship, and much more. Awardees are recognized at the event and a plaque is added to the Faculty Awards Gallery in the North Classroom Building (invite only).

Celebration of Staff Milestones & Excellence: May 1, noon to 2 p.m., Lawrence Street Center’s Terrace Room

This annual event is a moment to pause during the busy spring semester to raise awareness for the myriad ways our dedicated staff contribute daily to create a learning environment where our students can succeed. For the first time, we will honor staff who recently retired or plan to do so in the coming months. There will be awards, food, refreshments, and a raffle (invite only).

Alumni Awards: May 2, 6 to 9 p.m., Tivoli Turnhalle

While many of our spring events focus on students, faculty, and staff, this annual celebration puts alumni in the center of our conversations and recognizes CU Denver alumni who are creating an impact (invite only).

End of Year Celebration: May 7, 3 to 5 p.m., Corridor 44, Larimer Square

We did it! As classes wind down and we ramp up for commencement, this event gives faculty and staff an opportunity to applaud an excellent academic year (faculty and staff only).

Spring Commencement: May 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Denver Coliseum

More than 1,000 students are expected to receive their degrees in this day-long celebration, split into two ceremonies. Students from the College of Arts & Media, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Education & Human Development, and School of Public Affairs will participate in the morning ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Students from the Business School, College of Architecture and Planning, and College of Engineering, Design and Computing will attend the afternoon ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
