CU Denver Helps Transfer Students Belong and Succeed, Seeks to Be No. 1 Transfer Destination in Colorado

October 16, 2023

DENVER—National Transfer Student Week and Colorado Free Application Days are both next week, which provides Colorado college students an opportunity to apply for free to a school that best fits their academic, career, and personal goals. Because transfer students make up half of the University of Colorado Denver’s (CU Denver) population, we know when and how to best support their transition to our campus. The result is a track record of transfer students graduating at a higher rate than the national average for four-year public universities.

CU Denver makes transferring easy for students coming from all walks of life and backgrounds. There are a wide range of programs that accept prior learning credits and the flexibility to take courses in-person, hybrid, or fully online.

“As part of CU Denver’s mission to serve learners of all ages and life stages, we are committed to working directly with learners to help them transfer prior life and learning experiences into academic programs, supporting our students in their ambitions to graduate on-time, career-ready, and as affordably as possible,” said CU Denver’s Senior Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment and Student Success, Monique Snowden, PhD.

National Transfer Week & Colorado Free Application Days

National Transfer Student Week is the third week of October and is a time dedicated to recognizing transfer students and the professionals who support them. Additionally, Colorado’s sixth annual Free Applications Days will be held on October 17–19 for Colorado residents. All Colorado residents who are applying for undergraduate programs at all state public and some private Colorado colleges and universities are eligible to submit their admission applications for free. This includes first-time freshmen, transfer students, returning students, and applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree. Students who apply to CU Denver during this period will receive an exclusive code that allows them to submit their applications without fees.

Tips Before Transferring

There are several reasons a student might choose to transfer schools—be it location, cost, or program. When evaluating the decision to change, here are a few tips that can help smooth out the transition:

  • Evaluate your reasons for transferring
  • Visit campus to make sure it’s the right fit for you if planning an in-person experience
  • Pay attention to dates and deadlines
  • Know what materials you need
  • Invest time and effort in your application
  • Decide early and apply for FAFSA
