As the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to change, CU Denver’s Fall 2020 Commencement will be a virtual celebration starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. We understand that’s disappointing for our families and graduates, but we have to do what we can to protect the well-being of our community.

The University Events team has worked diligently to build upon the virtual commencement that took place this spring to honor our incredible Lynx for their academic accomplishments and perseverance through these challenging times. Below is a recap of what to expect for Fall 2020 Commencement, along with important deadlines that are quickly approaching.
Note: Additional opportunities will be added to the commencement website as they are developed, so please check back. All questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
All graduates will be included in a virtual celebration, which will feature graduate-submitted photos and expressions of gratitude. This will be a recorded video—not on Zoom—similar to the format of the spring 2020 virtual commencement. Graduates who register to participate will have their names announced when the ceremony premieres on Dec. 12. Graduate submissions are due by 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29.
Additional details will be shared regarding how to view the ceremony. Details will be emailed to registered graduates by the week of Dec. 7. The ceremony will be posted online at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec.12 and can be viewed anytime thereafter.
Cap and gown rental packages are available to order online and will be shipped directly to graduates’ homes. Caps and tassels may be kept as a keepsake, however gowns and hoods must be returned using an included shipping label. Order by Nov. 1 to ensure arrival by Dec. 1. Regalia is not required for participation in the virtual celebrations.
Herff Jones, CU Denver’s commencement partner, also offers several options for purchasing announcements, diploma frames, class rings, souvenir tassels, and more.
Graduates can request a complimentary celebration kit by confirming their shipping address when registering for the virtual celebration. Kits will include diploma covers, alumni t-shirts, honor cords (if applicable), and other commemorative items. Early orders are highly encouraged as kits will begin shipping in early November.
Requests must be submitted by Nov. 29. Orders placed on Nov. 29 are not guaranteed to arrive before the virtual celebration on Dec. 12.
The Fall 2020 Commencement program will be presented in a digital format available for download in December on the commencement website.
Future In-Person Celebrations
All graduates who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic can participate in any future in-person commencement ceremony once large gatherings are safe and permitted. Graduates who wish to participate in an in-person ceremony can register on the commencement website during the semester which they would like to participate.
