Happy birthday, CU Denver!

January 13, 2020

Did you know Jan. 11 is CU Denver’s official birthday? This year, CU Denver turns 47 years old—marking 47 years as Colorado’s only public research university in the heart of downtown Denver. To celebrate, we asked students, faculty, and staff what they love most about the university, whether it be an inspiring professor, lifelong friend, helpful staff member, or special moment. Below are some answers we received via CU Denver’s Facebook and Instagram.

Dr. Cheri Jones was the most inspiring professor of my entire college experience. She changed my life.” – Andrea Coder

The instruction and mentorship I have received from my professors has been phenomenal and is unquantifiable in its value not only to my coursework, but in my art career beyond graduation. The incredible darkroom facilities are my home away from home and are a rarity! I feel lucky to be part of #ucdenvercam!” – Shana Thompson

Our students make this an awesome place to work.” – Bud Talbot

It took me about 8 years to complete my undergrad across three different colleges. I never saw myself going to grad school but the faculty and staff at CU Denver saw my potential. Almost two years later I find myself successfully starting my career as a researcher, which would have never been possible without the amazing support I received from my professors and advisors. Shout out to SEHD! A few profs have even encouraged me to pursue a PhD. Thank you CU Denver for believing in me, and for helping me believe in myself!” – Luli Mc

I was working full time in a challenging job which required travel to several states. CU Denver offered off campus graduate programs with flexibility and I was able to get an MBA in International Marketing in a little over two years. Great education and helpful professors.” – Judy Allen

Dr. Dennis Green. The best professor I ever had in my life and one of the best humans I’ve ever met in this life. Happy birthday CU Denver.” – @luvismireligion

Dr. Anchordoquy in the biology department. She is the BEST!” – Rachel Payne

DAC (Digital Animation Center). Everything about the program has been such a blast and the professors are outstanding.” – Megan McLaughlin

CU Denver took me in right away last minute when I applied because my mom was diagnosed with cancer right before I was going to head to Miami for college. They’ve been amazing. My mom is an alum and my sister will soon be one too.” – Franklin Acosta-Munoz

Being a student from 2013 – 2019, I was proud to the see the expansion of the campus, but also being part of the accomplishments our university has been throughout that time span! Proud to be a CU Denver Lynx alum.” – Kuan-Hsuen Lee

Dr. Joan Bihun is truly amazing! Very motivational.” – Jennifer Pham

The CAM department and both of my student employee offices and the amazing people I work with. Center for Undergraduate Advising is amazing, and LynxConnect!” – Sydney Rakowski

The entire Anthropology Department is amazing!” – Madi Guthrie

I graduated in ’89 with dual BS Civil Engineering and BS Applied Mathematics degrees. I was a returning, working student and CU Denver was perfect for me in every way … challenging, personal, convenient. My profs were engaged, and so was I. I hold my CU Denver degrees up against those from any university.” – Paul Ahnberg

The School of Ed and Human Development for the support they have provided me.” – Jay Rei
