The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus Human Resources department volunteered at the Food Bank of the Rockies on March 13 as part of the annual CU in the Community program.

The department brought 25 volunteers to the Food Bank of the Rockies’ (FBR) warehouse at 10700 E. 45th Ave. They packed boxes, pulled orders and sorted food for FBR. The nonprofit organization, one of the larger hunger relief organizations in the Rocky Mountain region, provides food to more than 411,000 people annually.

The Human Resources volunteers worked alongside Ilene Gooden, age 91, who has helped out at FBR twice a week for 13 years. Gooden was happy to pose for photos holding flat Milo (#whereismilo).

“It is an energizing opportunity to partner with an organization that addresses community needs in a very direct manner while simultaneously strengthening our team bond,” said Doug Kasyon, HR director of organizational relations, learning and development.

The CU in the Community campaign encourages faculty and staff to spend a half-day of their work week volunteering in the community. This year’s featured partners were Brent’s Place and Ronald McDonald House. Past featured partners have included Habitat for Humanity and FBR.
