On March 1, 23 volunteers from the office filled almost 500 boxes — 6.5 tons — with food for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food program that targets low-income, pregnant and postpartum women, their infants and children, and seniors.
Scenes from HR’s volunteer day at FBR:
Brooke Fitzpatrick, a senior human resources consultant, said the four hours of packaging more than 13,000 pounds of food left the group with a unanimous feeling of success and time well spent. “Working toward a common good and touching our community through Food Bank of the Rockies was an amazing experience, and it was honor to volunteer our time,” Fitzpatrick said.
She joined colleagues at the Food Bank of the Rockies’ warehouse at 10700 E. 45th Ave. in Denver.
Administrative Assistant Duane Trantham said, “It helped me realize that Food Bank of the Rockies has a rich and long history of individuals from the community volunteering while it gives back to those in need in the community.”
Amy Lowell, human resources consultant, added: “It was a great way for our HR team to give back to our community, while bonding over such an amazing cause!”
During this year’s CU in the Community campaign, other university departments fanned out across the Denver metropolitan area to perform community service. For example, thein northeast Denver, and teams from at Food Bank of the Rockies.
Finance Office’s volunteer effort at FBR:
Olive Crawford, the Food Bank of the Rockies’ warehouse floor manager for volunteers, told the Finance Office group on Feb. 8 that they completed their assigned tasks faster than any group she had ever worked with. Score one for the bean counters!
Through CU in the Community all faculty and staff are allowed one half-day of work time (four hours) to go into the community and participate in a volunteer activity of their choice. This year’s program, which had Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver as featured partner, was expanded to include students and alumni.
The campaign wrapped up early this month.
