Spring 2022 Commencement: What to Know Before You Go

May 10, 2022

Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony
Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m.
Tivoli Quad, CU Denver Campus

Spring 2022 Commencement represents the culmination of years of hard work coupled with the extra perseverance and resilience required to meet the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the moment when you hold that hard-earned diploma in your hand is almost here!  Here are seven things every graduating Lynx should know before walking across stage.

1. Cap and gown pickup.

Pick up your pre-ordered ceremony regalia on Tuesday, May 10, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. or Wednesday, May 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., in St. Cajetan’s on the Auraria Campus (just south of the King Center). Bring your registration confirmation or photo ID with you when picking up your cap and gown. If someone else will be picking up your order for you, please make sure they bring your confirmation. If you elected to ship your regalia to yourself, you do not need to attend cap and gown pickup.

2. All graduates must remain seated for the entire ceremony.

Commencement is an exciting day for all, including graduates’ families. Help celebrate everyone’s achievements by staying seated for the entire ceremony. The ceremony will last two-to-three hours, so plan to be on campus until after noon and make your lunch reservations accordingly.

3. Use #CUDenverGrad and livestream to share your celebration.

Celebrate your accomplishments on social media! Use the hashtag #CUDenverGrad and join the commencement conversation before, during, and after the ceremony. The ceremony will be livestreamed via Facebook and YouTube and the link will be posted to the Commencement Spring 2022 website to allow your friends and family to celebrate you from afar.

4. Tickets are not required for guests at the ceremony, and there is no rehearsal.

Seating is first-come, first-served. In other words, the early bird gets the best parking spot, a coffee, and the best seat next to the giant screen. Bring as many guests as you like, but please contact the Commencement Office at 303-315-2113 or commencement@ucdenver.edu in advance to obtain saved seats for anyone who requires ADA accommodations. Also, since there is no rehearsal, keep an eye on your email for details on what to expect the morning of May 14.

5. Plan ahead for parking.

To find free parking on Saturday in all Auraria Campus lots, arrive early and consider carpooling! The Tivoli Garage will be closed on commencement day and campus access will only be available via 7th Street. The Spruce and Dogwood surface lots will provide designated accessible parking on a first-come, first-served basis with a valid state-issued ADA placard or license plate along with a parking permit from the commencement office (mailed to graduates who requested disability-related accommodations for their loved ones). A golf cart shuttle will be provided for guests requiring transport to the Tivoli Quad. Light Rail or RTD bus lines also drop off and pick up near campus. (Be sure to check Light Rail rider alerts in advance for information about outages and delays.)

6. Commencement is a rain-or-shine event.

We will be outside, so come prepared for the Colorado elements! Bring sunscreen, or a poncho, or a winter hat—or maybe all three. If severe weather occurs, you will be notified of an updated plan by 6 a.m. commencement morning. Keep an eye on the email account you used to register for commencement notifications. Please also visit the commencement website and review severe weather plans prior to the ceremony.

7. Kick off graduation weekend at our End-of-Year Celebration Friday, May 13.

All students, faculty, staff, graduates, and their families are invited to celebrate the end of our academic year and kick off graduation weekend together on Larimer Square Friday, May 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. Come share in a fun-filled afternoon including games, food, beverages, live music, a cap decorating station, and more! Students are encouraged to RSVP and check-in at the corner of 14th St. and Larimer Square to pick up a food voucher.

Keep this information in mind to better prepare you for the big day. And, don’t forget: Commencement begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, on the Tivoli Quad on the CU Denver campus. We look forward to seeing you there!
