A large, eye-catching mural painted by students in the Artworks Guild, a new CU Denver club, will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Friday in the first-floor student lounge of the Arts Building.
The Artworks Guild is a creative and learning forum for students majoring in illustration, digital design, painting and drawing, and animation in the College of Arts & Media. The club formed last January and has two major accomplishments so far, according to club president Nina Nadeau. “Our first is a chalk mural done during Denver’s 2015 Chalk Festival. “Our second is the 8-foot-by-8-foot portable mural that will be unveiled Oct. 9,” she said.
Nadeau said the club plans to create murals as an annual tradition. One mural design will be used for both the Denver Chalk Art Festival and a large, portable mural that can reside in the student lounge. “The permanent mural is to be our hallmark, a showcase of Artwork Guild’s talent and the talent of CAM students in general,” Nadeau said. “We hope to create an environment of excitement to be an artist, to be a part of the Guild and to create together. Most importantly, this mural was organized and painted by students for students!”
The students worked the installation request through the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) to get the necessary approvals. The mural will reside in the student lounge until at least January 2016. Each artist who painted the acrylic piece will have his or her name on a plaque beside the mural.
Friday’s unveiling reception is free and open to the public.
