Thanksgiving Break Activities You Can Do at Home and in the City of Denver

Midterms are almost over, and the holiday season is quickly approaching. Some students may be traveling home for break, but that doesn’t mean our campus and its surroundings will be empty. If you’re staying put, enjoy these activities happening close by or from the comfort of your residence hall, apartment, or house. 

Fun in the City of Denver

Mile High Tree on 16th Street

The Mile High Tree boasts a height of 110 feet, accompanied by an elaborate light show and music. On your way over, check out Larimer Square—holiday edition! 

When: Starts Nov. 19, every night from 5 – 10 p.m.

Where: 16th Street Mall at Welton Street

Funny Stuff(ing) Stand-Up 

Located right across from campus, The Denver Comedy Lounge is hosting two turkey day-themed shows. Tickets cost $18 and guarantee a laugh.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 24, 7 and 9 p.m.

Where: The Denver Comedy Lounge, 3559 Larimer St.

*This show is for those 21 and older.

Mavens of Music at the Maven Hotel

Located in the Denver Milk Market, the Maven Hotel hosts live local music every Thursday. Unwind the midterms stress and savor a hot drink from Huckleberry Roasters right next door. 

When: Thursday, Nov. 25

2nd Annual Après Market

Ever wondered what it would be like to visit a European ski town? Find out at the Dairy Block while you shop, dine, and enjoy live music. Plus, you can start your holiday shopping!

When: Nov. 24 – 26

Where: 1800 Wazee St.


Host or Attend a Friendsgiving  

This is a great opportunity relieve stress, enjoy the holiday, and spend time with friends. Step out of your comfort zone and deviate from the traditions. Pick a non-holiday related theme. Make it a potluck. Bring out the karaoke machine.


Set the Scene at Home 

Decorate Your Space: Turn on some holiday music and bring out the lights and decorations.

Get Creative in the Kitchen: Prepare yourself for upcoming holiday parties by trying new recipes. What will you bring this time?

Step Outside: Take a walk through your neighborhood and enjoy the holiday decorations. They only happen once a year!

Order Your Gifts Early: Start compiling your holiday shopping list and hop on the computer. Many companies offer gift guides and deals.
