When Is the Presidential Inauguration and How Can I Watch?

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C. Biden is expected to be sworn in around 10 a.m. Mountain time.

How to Watch

All major broadcast and cable networks will air inauguration day events live. The events will also stream live on these social media channels: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Twitch. Visit bideninaugural.org/watch for links.

Will People Attend in Person?

Yes, although the number of tickets to in-person Inauguration Day are limited due to the pandemic. Historically, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies provides 200,000 tickets for the event. However, Biden’s inaugural committee has reduced the number of tickets significantly and appointed Dr. David Kessler as a chief medical adviser to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed amid the pandemic.

Who Will Perform During the Ceremony?

Lady Gaga will sing the National Anthem at the swearing-in ceremony. Jennifer Lopez will also give a musical performance on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol when Biden in sworn in as the 46th U.S. president. Former Georgetown University president Rev. Leo O’Donovan will give the invocation, firefighter Andrea Hall will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Rev. Silvester Beaman of Bethel African Methodist Church will give the benediction, and first national youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman will give a poetry reading.

Other Events Include “Celebrating America” TV Special

The night of the Presidential Inauguration, actor Tom Hanks will host a prime time special titled “Celebrating America.” The show will air live on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC starting at 6:30 p.m. Mountain time on Jan. 20. Other performers include Foo Fighters, Jon Bon Jovi, John Legend, Demi Lovato, Bruce Springsteen, and Justin Timberlake. Throughout the night, Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington will introduce segments about young people making a difference in their communities. “Celebrating America” will also be streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Twitch.
